CE-APCC

Value

Leveraging Population-Based Cohorts and Africa’s Diversity

We are dedicated to leveraging population-based cohorts and Africa’s diversity to establish a transformative capability and forum that unites African scientists, policymakers, community contributors, and stakeholders. Our goal is to collaboratively create an evidence-based African Population Cohort Consortium (APCC) that not only catalyzes groundbreaking research but also fosters long-term sustainability. By advocating for multidisciplinary engagement and innovative strategies, we strive to positively impact the health and well-being of African communities.

CE-APCC

MISSION

Creating A Platform for Population-Based Cohorts in Africa

Our mission is to create a platform for population-based cohorts in Africa by uniting diverse stakeholders to establish the African Population Cohort Consortium (APCC). Through collaboration with African scientists, policymakers, community contributors, and other stakeholders, we aim to generate enthusiasm and support for implementing and sustaining population cohorts. We will utilize innovative multidisciplinary approaches to leverage the diversity of African populations in driving impactful research and promoting community health and well-being.

OUR

OBJECTIVE

To harness African diversity for scientific discovery and its advancement.

SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY

To harness the genetic, socio-economic cultural and environmental diversity of Africa for scientific discovery

UNLOCK COHORTS

Unlock the potential of population cohorts in Africa by enabling interoperability, data harmonization, safe harbour to allow data transfer.

MAXIMISE INVESTMENTS

Use investment and expertise in existing cohorts to build research capacity

FILL GAPS

Identify and fill gaps by establishing new scientific collaborations across cohorts or new cohorts where needed

ENGAGE

Engage a broad spectrum of African scientists, policymakers, community contributors and other stakeholders to co-create the APCC

IMPLEMENTATION STAGES

Review of Existing
APCC’s

A review of population-based cohort in Africa, including a survey of existing cohorts, an assessment of the synergies between the APCC and other ongoing efforts to support African research, and identification of stakeholders.

Consultative
Workshops

A series of virtual thematic workshops during the second and third quarters of 2023 to discuss and debate issues identified during the previous stage will be conducted with scientists active in African cohorts and other key stakeholders.

CE-APCC
Workstreams

During the third stage of the formative phase, work will proceed in seven workstreams to detail the optimal components of an APCC.

APCC
Blueprint

The final stage will culminate in an in-person meeting towards the end of the first quarter of 2024 to reach a consensus and finalise the APCC blueprint document for submission to the funders and wider scientific, policy and development communities.
